Palaeomagnetic suitability of a new section with a potential lower boundary for the Quaternary on the left bank of the lower River Danube

A first palaeomagnetic study has been carried out on a new section with potential lower boundary interval for the Quaternary, Dolynske 3. Recently, Matuyama-Brunhes (at 780 ka) was detected in adjacent of 2. The current focuses hydromorphic palaeosols, loesses and pedosediments Bogdanivka to Kryzhanivka units. Taking into account previous data from other sections loess/soil formation Ukraine, Gauss-Matuyama (2.58 Ma) could be expected at top soil unit. However, rock magnetic magnetostratigraphic results 3 indicate an extremely low concentration ferrimagnetic minerals absence characteristic component magnetisation due influence hydromorphism. Only two samples Berezan units show clearly defined reversed polarity; rest were uninformative rejected interpretation. Given unsuitability palaeosols studies, determination requires additional, including methodological, research Ukraine.
